Tree Production Coordinator

Mires Beck has been a registered charity since 1994 (charity number: 1038078), dedicated to enriching lives through work experience and social therapeutic horticulture. Situated on a stunning 14-acre nursery and conservation site, we provide meaningful opportunities for adults living with learning difficulties, Autism, and physical disabilities. Manage and oversee tree production across both sites, working in conjunction with and under the supervision of the Head of Habitats.
Provide direct line management and day-to-day support to the Tree Team Supervisor at Mires Beck Nursery and the Horticultural Production Lead at Pocklington.
Undertake a wide range of horticultural and arboriculture production activities, including: sowing tree nuts and seeds; sowing and managing seed trays; pricking out seedlings; potting and potting-on; watering and general plant maintenance; o weeding; monitoring plant health, pests and diseases; grading and preparing finished stock.
Maintain high production standards and ensure trees are accurately graded to meet customer and order requirements.
Work efficiently and accurately within a fast-paced, high-volume production environment, ensuring agreed production targets for selected tree species are achieved within required timescales.

More Information: This is a permanent position working a 35-hour week, Monday to Friday, 7 hours per day from 8.30am to 4.00pm, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The role will be split between the following two locations:

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is looking to recruit a Gardener on a full-time contract to work across all gardens of the five Shakespeare family homes and other grounds.
Working as part of a small team you will be helping in the day-to-day maintenance and presentation of the five gardens, ensuring that they are ready for the public. You will be able to talk knowledgeably to visitors whilst working in the gardens and confidently answer their questions.

Operational Accountability
The sustainable maintenance and care of the Trust’s gardens and land as required
Work in a safe and environmentally aware manner
Maintain operational experience levels in respect of garden machinery and chemical treatments, including maintaining certification where applicable
Financial Responsibility
Responsible for the maintenance, inventory and security of Gardens equipment, tools and machinery
Customer Service
Engage with the general public, by providing horticultural process related information whilst working on projects

NVQ level 2 horticulture, or extensive practical horticultural experience
A basic knowledge of horticultural practices, plants species and their husbandry
PA1 and PA6a spraying certification and a knowledge of appropriate fertiliser applications
An interest in garden design and border composition
Knowledge of Health and Safety best practice and procedures is essential
Skills in completing and interpreting work programs
Supervision of staff, volunteers, students
Clean driving licence
Towing experience (desirable)
Experience of operating a range of gardening machinery and equipment
Previous experience as a working gardener carrying out the full range of gardening duties, in a public garden
Previous experience in talking to members of the public/visitors regarding gardening would be desirable

Hours: You will be contracted to work 35 hours per week. Your normal working pattern will be Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4.00pm
Salary: £24,078.60 per annum, which is based on an hourly rate of £13.23

This role is a genuine blend of sales and purchasing. With a product range spanning more than 10,000 plant varieties sourced from UK and European growers, no two days are quite the same.
On the sales side, you'll spend part of your time supporting customers, preparing quotations, converting enquiries into orders and building relationships.
The purchasing element of the role will see you sourcing stock, managing supplier relationships and ensuring the nursery has the right plants available at the right time.
It's a fast-moving environment, with stock frequently arriving and leaving the site the same day. Understanding what customers want and reacting quickly is a key part of the role.
This isn't a role where you can sit behind a screen all day. You'll be out on the nursery, reviewing stock, speaking with suppliers, understanding what's selling, and helping drive the commercial success of the business.
Day to day, you'll be:
Handling sales enquiries by phone and email
Preparing quotations and following them through to order
Building relationships with landscapers, designers, architects and garden centres
Purchasing plants and stock from UK and European suppliers
Monitoring stock levels and identifying purchasing opportunities
Maintaining a strong understanding of current nursery stock and availability
Preparing weekly availability lists for customers
Visiting customers and suppliers across the UK and Europe
Working closely with sales, purchasing and nursery teams to ensure orders are fulfilled efficiently

Strong horticultural knowledge
Experience within horticulture - this could be a background in garden centres, landscaping, plant supply or a related industry
Commercial awareness, with experience in either plant sales or purchasing (or an interest in learning the other side)

Good organisation and ability to manage multiple priorities
