YPHA Winter Life Skills Programme in Partnership with Barclays LifeSkills
We’re excited to reveal more details of the YPHA Winter Life Skills Programme, delivered in partnership with Barclays LifeSkills.
This series of seven weekday evening virtual sessions will run from October through to March, each designed to equip young people in horticulture with the transferable skills they need to thrive in their careers.
We have 3 confirmed so far, with further details below. You can attend single seminars, at the cost of £3 per seminar, or pay £10 to receive access to the full 7 seminars.
Please Note:
For single seminars - if you’re looking to attend a single or a handful of seminars, please ensure each individual item is added to your basket. You will receive a confirmation email straight away, and a link for the seminar afterwards.
For the package - the remaining four seminars will be booked on weekday evenings. You will be automatically updated as the seminars are realeased & don’t need to purchase anything further.
Please note these sessions will not be recorded- the sessions are live and will involve participation.
Seminar 1: Monday 20 October @ 6.30 p.m - Business Planning
Understand enterprise skills, identify the seven key steps to starting a business, and practise planning and pitching a business idea.
Ideal for anyone with ambitions to launch their own venture, or to bring entrepreneurial thinking into their current role.
Seminar 2: Tuesday 25 November @ 6.30 p.m. – Mental Resilience
Using resources developed with Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, explore the importance of mental wellbeing for long-term success.
We all know how hard the winters can be for our industry in particular, so this session is particularly placed to help equip the tools to keep moving forward through the darker months.
Seminar 3:Wednesday 17 December @ 6.30 p.m. – Team Building
Identify leadership qualities, recognise the value of teamwork, and explore inclusivity in leadership.
Useful for leaders or future leaders - whether supervising small tasks, managing full teams, or stepping up across multiple locations.
Seminar 4 Thursday 29th January @ 6.30 p.m. - Problem Solving
Identify problems of different scales and what is needed to solve them
Illustrate the use of an adaptable approach to solving problems
Understand that problem solving is a core transferable skill and identify its usefulness in a work setting
Work in a team to solve a problem
Recognise that the future of work is being influenced by societal trends and what this means in the context of developing core transferable skills such as problem solving.
Seminar 5: Monday 23rd February @ 6.30 p.m. - Communication Skills
Identify different models of non-verbal communication
Identify some examples of organisational and personal values
Consider how to prepare for job applications using mission statements and values
Understand the definition of inclusive behaviour and how to promote inclusivity in the classroom and workplace
Seminar 6: Tuesday 24th March @ 6.30 p.m. - Planning Events & Budgets
Understand a range of financial terminology.
Identify ways of managing a budget for a project at work.
They also develop’ core transferable skills such as problem solving and communication.
Seminar 7: Wednesday 29th April @ 6.30 p.m. - Developing Your Personal Brand
Begin to define a personal brand to help them stand out to potential employers
Be able to draw on different experiences to demonstrate transferable skills on a CV
Recognise how LinkedIn can help create networks and make contacts
